On January 16, 2012, a man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault that took place back in June of last year. The man was driving on Vermont Avenue when he exited his car to confront a homeless man whom he thought exposed a sexually-explicit tattoo to him in a suggestive way. After exiting his vehicle, the suspect beat this homeless man with a tire iron leaving him with a broken left forearm and cuts on his head, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The man was identified by witnesses who took down his license plate, as well as those who were able to identify him out of a photo lineup. Following identification, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest. When officials became aware that the defendant was on an inbound flight from Korea, the LAPD fugitive task force and the FBI met him at the airport to arrest him.
The defendant was released on Tuesday, January 17, on $60,000 bail. He will be facing one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon. Back in 2001, he was also convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance as well as a misdemeanor carrying a loaded firearm. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in state prison.
