A Three-Year-Old Was Shot but Was It an Accident?

Okabe & Haushalter Feb 1, 2018 Murder/Manslaughter

Homicide should never be dismissed as anything less than a tragedy, but it seems even worse when an innocent child has lost their life due to the actions of others. One such child was the three-year-old victim of a shooting in Compton on Saturday January 20. As two men argued in a parking lot on the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard around 7.45 pm, shooting broke out and the child was struck by a stray bullet. It is believed that the bullet was aimed at one of the men, who got into a car driven by his partner when gunfire erupted.

After the boy was hit by the bullet, his mother drove him to the parking lot of the nearby Lucky Star Café, Carson, where some passers-by called 911. Despite being rushed to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, the boy died from his injuries later on Saturday evening. Police have confirmed they have identified the shooter and, at the time of writing, are communicating with his family to facilitate his surrender and arrest for the death of the toddler. No information has been released as to whether the incident will be treated as a homicide or manslaughter.

Anyone with information on the incident is requested to contact LASD’s Homicide Bureau on 323-890-5500 or pass it anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 800-222-8477.
