O.J. Simpson’s Parole To Be Delayed

Okabe & Haushalter Oct 26, 2017 Criminal Defense

The never ending saga of O.J. Simpson is not quite over. The hall of fame football star turned actor became forever infamous after he was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994. But Simpson’s legal troubles have continued. In 1997, Simpson was found guilty of wrongful death in a civil trial and was ordered to pay $33,500,000.00 worth of damages to the Goldman family. Simpson later had tax problems with the IRS. He was eventually sentenced to prison for conspiracy to an armed robbery to recover his own memorabilia. Most recently, Simpson was granted parole from the State of Nevada. But that may be delayed until a release plan has been completed and approved by the state.

Simpson’s History with High End Criminal Defense Attorneys

During his double murder trial, Simpson had a dream team of Los Angeles criminal defense attorneys in his corner. Names like Johnny Cochran, Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey, Barry Scheck and Robert Kardashian were legends in the legal field. Each played a key role in his acquittal. His current attorney Malcolm LaVergne was able to help Simpson get early parole. However, since his parole hearing in July, Simpson’s legal team has been somewhat sloppy.

What Is Causing the Delay?

During his parole hearing, Simpson said he intended to move back to Florida and live with his grown children. The Florida Department of Corrections has yet to receive Simpson’s transfer request. In most cases, the transfer of parole jurisdiction is routine procedure easily approved. Under Nevada law, the inmate will be assigned a caseworker to create a proper release supervision plan. Simpson’s longtime friend Tom Scotto has invited the former football star to live with at his Naples, FL home. Simpson also has the option to change his request and live in Nevada. However, he still must complete and submit a release plan. Meanwhile, Simpson’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, says he has yet to hear from his client. “Mr. Simpson’s obligations to make arrangements, not mine,” LaVergne told NBC News. “When he advises me of the move, I’ll inform the media.”
